沖縄 シリーズ① 基地の島 "Okinawa Series(1) Island in a base."

沖縄に飛行機で到着(那覇国際空港着陸)すると、いろんな格納庫が最初に目をうばう

I arrive in Okinawa by airplane (Naha international airport landing), then various hangars dazzle first.
日本の一般人から見れば沖縄は観光地、でも到着した途端に基地の島だと思い知らされる

最初の飛行機は航空自衛隊の救援機 U-125A
 遭難した機体や乗員の捜索、救難時の援助物資の投下など、捜索・救出活動を行うための航空機

U-125Aは、捜索レーダー、赤外線暗視装置の装備による捜索能力の向上、さらに援助物資投下機構を装備したことによって、遭難者に対する延命も含めた援助能力が向上したことが特徴です。近年は、作戦機の行動範囲が広がっており、それに対応した救難能力の強化を図ることができます。(このページの説明は自衛隊のHPより引用させてもらいました)

対潜哨戒機として有名ですが、潜水艦や船舶による領海侵犯を警戒しています

年間利用客数は約2000万人(国内線1700万人、国際線300万人)で、着陸回数は日本の空港で第5位、旅客数は第6位、国内線だけで見ると着陸回数は第2位、旅客数は第4位となっています
